Excuse me but my brain fell out
May 29th, 2008 by Dani
Days off line, piles of paper with things I really want to post about and here I am, sitting down, glass of wine Ankle Biters asleep. Is a frenzy about to start? No. Brain is lying on the floor, energy levels are nil. What’s that about? To be honest, I felt much the same about cooking dinner tonight. I’ve been told many times over the last couple of weeks that I’m looking pale. I’m feeling pale.
Whinge, moan, woe is me, how’s that for boring blogging? Lucky I’m not a horse.
I’ll put you out of your misery, tell you about tonight’s dinner and come back tomorrow in a less boring frame of mind. This was a lovely dish and would be a great way to start to introduce curries to Ankle Biters (not that mine need any introduction)
Javanese Beef Curry
adapted from Super Food Ideas
5 green onions, roughly chopped
5 cloves garlic
3cm piece ginger
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon white pepper
2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
500g beef (any cut is fine)
1/2 cup ketcap manis
2 cinnamon sticks
3 medium tomatoes
juice 2 limes
Grind first 5 ingredients into a paste in thermomix, food processor or with mortar and pestle.
Heat oil in large saucepan. Add paste and fry for a couple of minutes until fragrant. Add meat and brown. Add 1 1/2 cups water, ketcap manis and simmer for 1 hour. Add tomato and lime juice, simmer for another 20 minutes. Serve over steamed rice and garnish with chilli.
Cost per serve approx. $1.70
NB These were very small servings, for larger servings, this recipe would only feed 2 people so increase cost per serve to $3.40

yum, guess what’s for dinner tomorrow night?

Hugs Dani - take care of yourself, it’s been a tough few weeks. x
Oh and Yuuuum to the beef curry, sounds super.
You won’t regret it Karen. if only for the smell of it through the house as it’s cooking.
True story Maria, recovery is proving MUCH harder than I had anticipated. I must be getting old.
Made the Javanese Curry with slight adaption. Delicious. Of course I didn’t bother giving it to Dad, he had Cottage Pie.
