I’m going through one of my frenzies of cleaning out the fridge and pantry. Every now and again I seem to get a build up of obscure ingredients and just before Christmas when I’m trying to save money is a great time to use them all up. Not only does it tidy up the cupboards [...]

Super easy dessert. Crumble.

The Bread Winner is a dessert lover. Which is unfortunate for him because I am not much of a dessert maker. Not something I grew up with so not something that often occurs to me to make. On the bright side, he does love a crumble and they are super quick and easy to make.

Fig Tart

En route to Son and Heir’s school, we ride past a fence with an overhanging fig tree. Surely we all know by now how much I love figs. It is possible, that enough time has been factored into our morning ride to raid the half of the tree overhanging public space.

I’m fairly sure mine is different every time I make it. It’s the most wonderful meal in a bowl. The dressing for tonight’s version was inspired by Jane Lawson’s Tossed’. The love affair continues.

We’ve been on a pancake frenzy [...]

300g stewed rhubarb and apple (or just rhubarb)
300g sliced strawberries
50g grated fair trade dark chocolate
1/4 cup flour
2 tablespoons [...]

Son and Heir loves to cook with me. Best of all, he’s actually old and coordinated enough to be useful these days. He even has his own ‘kiddie kutter’, an Ankle Biter safe knife that he uses with great pride (check the ad on on the side if you’re interested). Lil Miss and the Bread [...]

When Bob was handing out taste buds and palates and the like, my Dad was curiously absent. Which makes dinner challenging when he comes to visit. It’s a question of balance. Something that Dad will eat and something that won’t make the rest of us actually die of palate induced ennui. That’s a real disease, [...]
