One Book Meme
Feb 10th, 2009 by Dani
To be perfectly honest, food has been fairly mundane and run of the mill around here lately. Even last night’s truly delicious lamb roast was just a lamb roast. Nothing worth blogging about. But I came by this meme on the wonderful Domestic Cantata’s blog and it tickled my fancy as I read almost as much as I cook. In fact I’d probably spend more time reading if I could get away with it.
One book meme
As tagging is anathema to me, I’ll go with what Maria said;
If this meme appeals to you, consider yourself tagged. And let me know, I’d love some recommendations.
One book you’re currently reading: Summer Moonshine by P. G. Wodehouse
One book that changed your life: I don’t know that any book has actually changed my life although many books have deeply influenced me and my thinking. Is that a cop out?
One book you’d want on a desert island: Naked into the wilderness – Primitive Wilderness Living and Survival Skills, John & Geri McPherson
One book you’ve read more than once: Gone with the Wind, Margaret Mitchell
One book you’ve never been able to finish: I’m leaving half of Maria’s answer in here. Arundhati Roy, The God Of Small Things. I just didn’t get it. I don’t think I finished Ulysses, James Joyce either but maybe I did. It was many years ago.
One book that made you laugh: Cold Comfort Farm, Stella Gibbons
One book that made you cry: A Thousand Splendid Sons, Khaled Hosseini
One book you keep rereading: Anything by Jane Austen (snap Maria)
One book you’ve been meaning to read: Ghostwritten, David Mitchell. Because Cloud Atlas blew me away
One book you believe everyone should read: For everyone living in the lap of Western middle class luxury, A Fine Balance, Rohinton Mistry, to help appreciate how lucky we are.

Oh so many of my faves here…
I’m completely with you on the Mistry: incredible book – moving, and devastatingly brilliant. I push that one on so many people. Heh.
Austen: always
Cloud Atlas: wasn’t it amazing?
And Wodehouse? Of course!
Docwitchs last blog post..An Ode to the Apron
Oooh! Great stuff here. Must read Gone with the Wind. Must read A Thousand Splendid Sons – I bought DH The Kite Runner for Xmas cos I really want to read it myself. (Is that bad?) Anything by Wodehouse sounds delicious. Borrowed the Jeeves and Wooster DVDs from the library last year, Alexander LOVED them! Fry and Laurie version of course. And must read the Rohinton Mistry book, sounds intriguing.
And again with the similarities Docwitch! Have you tried Neil Gaiman? If not, I highly recommend him, he’s my latest find.
Maria I am so happy to hear you’re raising Alexander correctly. An early affiliation with Fry and Laurie is essential for a young man’s development
Definitely read the Mistry. It’s truly incredible.
