An adventure in applique
Jan 19th, 2009 by Dani
Some time ago I picked up a cute little Seed denim dress for Lil Miss at a baby and kids market, figuring it would fit her in winter of this year. It had a couple of barely noticeable dots of red paint on it but I decided to live with that as I only paid $5. The price was attached with a sticky label. When I got the dress home and removed the paint tag, I discovered a large paint splotch under the label. Cheeky.

I manage to fade it considerably but it still shows a little.

My obsession with our lack of rain inspired me and I decided to attempt an applique version of a rain dance to cover the larger mark and distract the eye from the smaller marks.

I’m not displeased with the result but I think it needs something on the bottom right of the dress to balance it. I just can’t think what. Any suggestions?

cheeeky for sure!
cute
i like the applique tho. great idea.
my first thought for the bottom of the dress was a little girl looking up at the umbrella and rain…maybe with a little patch of GREEN grass underneath.
another umbrella, or a pair of gumboots
looks fabulous though dani!
Kel that sounds so cute but I’m not sure I could pull that off. Although I did consider embroidering some green grass.
Karen I LOVE the idea of gumboots.
Mr Designy Pants Bread Winner doesn’t think it needs anything else so maybe I’ll leave it for now and move on to the next project
it’s sooooo cute! love the umbrella and i don’t think it really needs anything else either, but maybe a thin red rick rack along the hem and sleeves to bring out the colour if anything?
I love the rick rack idea Leslie. That would look gorgeous!
Gorgeous! I love this - great job. I think it looks lovely as it is.
Docwitchs last blog post..On Lullabies
Thanks Docwitch. As I have no red rick to hand I may well just let it be.
