Sunday morning in the kitchen
Jul 26th, 2008 by Dani
It’s super cold and wet in Melbourne this morning. It rained much of the night and it seems to be continuing into the day. Which is a good thing. Let’s hope it’s raining over the catchment areas and not just here. The only issue with this weather is that it means I won’t get the massive pile of wood in the backyard sawn and I”ll have to go to gym instead of going for a run. No great hardship either way.
What a morning like this is perfect for is crumpets.
Lucky really as I have been wanting to try the Thermomixer’s thermomix crumpet recipe. So I did and it was good and happiness reigned at the Chez KP breakfast table. As it will again if the Bread Winner ever scrapes his carcass out of bed. Presumably then we will find out if they cure hangovers as he crept in very quietly at 5am after poker night. Very quiet = very drunk. He’s noisy when he’s sober.
While I was at it, in an attempt to delay the hideous task of listing unwanted items on ebay, I also did all the prep work for dinner and whipped up the date and walnut loaf recipe in the thermomix book. Not only have I been wanting to try it but it used up 2 bananas from the freezer, making more room for my impending beef delivery. Gosh I’m efficient. Speaking of efficient, that recipe left me with two egg yolks which reminded me that I was out of mayonnaise. I say was as I now have a jar of macadamia mayonnaise in the fridge.

In five minutes, the banana loaf will be ready, the soup from the freezer will have heated for lunch and I will have no excuse but to attack the ebay pile. Surely such a conscientous morning deserves a better reward?

but wahhh what on earth did i do wrong with the crumpets? mine weren’t nearly as yummy as yours look

Was Canberra cold and wet too? I don’t know, I followed T’Mixers instructions exactly for once in my life. The only variable I can think of would be the starting temp. of the milk and water.
Glad to see the crumpets were successful - better risen than mine even - unfair.
brazen - were yours too watery? didn’t rise? Too watery was how my first batch were - but I called them pancakes & nobody argued.

My kitchen was very warm as the oven was on and the heater so I think that helped with the good rise.
