Simple things, big impacts

I wasn’t going to blog today. Busy, busy, busy and all that. Then I made dinner and decided to share a little snippet of it with you. I love that the simplest little leaf, plucked from my very own garden can totally transform a meal. Which leaf depends totally on what the meal is of course.
Tonight was a comparatively rare thing in our house, a red meat night. My favourite garnish for red meat is fried sage leaves. If you’ve never tried them, I absolutely insist you do. You don’t even need to bother with the meat. Just eat the sage leaves. They’re that good. Or if you’re not a carnivore, try them with gnocchi and a sprinkling of good quality parmesan for a simple and delicious meal.
All you need to concoct these little miracles of flavour is a handful of sage leaves, a dob of butter and a fry pan or even a baking tray. I guess you could use oil in lieu of butter too. I always use butter. ‘Cos butter tastes better. Melt the butter, place the leaves in and after about a minute, turn them. When they start to look stiff, after about another minute, remove them. That’s it. Job’s done.
Make a lot. You need extra for munching.
I’d have a photo for you if my kitchen wasn’t so dark that they look black. You’ll just have to make them and see for yourself.

I couldn’t agree more! Sage leaves done that way are totally addictive! I think I’ll do it tomorrow.:)
