oh, one more thing - have you check out Goodreads? http://www.goodreads.com

another bloggy friend sent me a "friend" invite and it's kinda neat, you can list the books you've read/are reading and check out what your friends are reading. i've also found it pretty handy to keep track of books that i want to read there so i don't forget them.

leslies last blog post..<a href="http://onegirldesignwrks.blogspot.com/2008/09/quickies.html" rel="nofollow">quickies</a>

booooooo. hopefully it was a work laptop? pain in the ass about the passports though, they'll be a nightmare to replace...

books, hmm, books... i've read quite a few this year that i enjoyed. i just finished Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald and it had me pretty fascinated the whole way through. What Is the What by Dave Eggers was great... you've probably already read them but if not, i thought The Poisonwood Bible and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver were both great. and, surprisingly, i picked up Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes at an op shop for 50¢ when i was pregnant and desperate for some light reading and it turned out to be a fabulous foodies memoir of an american living, cooking and growing in tuscany, not the female midlife crisis that i thought it was going to be based on the movie that was made from it. a lovely surprise and if you haven't read it, i recommend it fully. it had me inspired to cook yummy, simple fresh pasta dishes for weeks afterward.
(sorry for the extended comment rife with run on and incomplete sentences)

Thanks Fig. Have read Life of Pi a few years back. Enjoyed it too.
So true Nate. All our passwords have been changed. Passports are listed as stolen. Some customised changes existed on the lap top so we're hoping the scum do something silly and get caught. I'll look into the Diane Jacob book, thanks for the recommendation.

Sorry about losing the laptop and the passports. That just sucks big time. And in this day and age of identity theft, that could suck even more. I hope he had strong passwords on the hard drive.

I've been reading "Will Write for Food" by Diane Jacob. And eye-opening discussion of what it takes to be a food writer nowadays.

I loved Songs of the Gorilla Nation. Fabulous book.

I'm currently reading Life of Pi, and it's pretty good, if you haven't checked it out already.

Laptop-stealer is a putz. I hate that guy.

Docwitch I'm up to the last pages of Gorilla Nation. I've really enjoyed it. Her writing style is a reflection of what she is saying about how she thinks and feels about things. I was most struck by how her diagnosis allowed her more personal freedom in the respect that she no longer felt compelled to be 'normal'. From her point of view, being labelled by a condition is a positive, not a negative. Which is so contrary to what I so often see in the parents of children on the autism spectrum. Definitely worth reading.
The Omnivore's Dilemma is one I keep forgetting that I want to read. Thanks for that. Will go search for it now. I'd lve to find some Wodehouse I haven't read Or I could just reread. I haven't for ages.

Argh. Boo hiss! That is truly rotten and upsetting.
I have a most excellent and effective spell to make genitals drop off. It does come with a warning though. Mustn't point it at boys you are fond of, or it could have...unfortunate results. My cat knows about this. Let me know if you need it. Hmm...maybe not.

btw - I've heard of Songs of a Gorilla Nation, (the Bloke's sis has aspergers, so we keep an eye open for these kinds of books). I'd be interested to hear how you go with it.
I have a swag of delish books on the go at the moment. Mainly of the crafting ilk. And I just returned from a family drive-by the library tonight, and scored Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, and some more Wodehouse.

Docwitchs last blog post..<a href="http://darksideofthebroom.blogspot.com/2008/09/happy-spring-solstice.html" rel="nofollow">Happy Spring Solstice</a>
