The Bread Winner and I have run away to Sydney for a long weekend. The Ankle Biters are on their very best behaviour at their Grandparent’s. And if they’re not, they should be. The purpose behind this trip is that some months ago, I won a competition, which entails spending somone else’s money in Sydney. Something that should be very easy. In many respects it is but I’ve found that I am just not programmed for wonton spending. It goes against the core of my being. The Bread Winner has had many a chuckle at my expense as I stand umming and ahhing over a purchase. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. This is the sort of dilemma I can live with. Besides, while my brain is boggling over what to do, it’s quiet. I can hear the thoughts tumbling around my skull. No one is climbing my leg, tugging at my arm, throwing a tantrum or otherwise competing for my attention. It’s very quiet.
After a morning of shopping, a midday massage and a refreshing afternoon walk around Rozelle and Balmain, the Bread Winner and I wandered up to the local for a bite of dinner. It’s a great pub. Warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly and the food is great. We both ordered the special, ‘crispy pork belly with crab meat and a petite salad’. It was the size of a largeish entree, rich, flaboursome and utterly delicious. The salad was delicate and fresh and cut the incredible richness of the pork perfectly. The presentation was flawless and the service just so. We’ve eaten at the Sackville a couple of times before and never been disappointed. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend you drop in.

Well deserved break Dani - enjoy!! I know exactly what you mean about the space in your brain (and your hands - having two free hands, oh my)… the boys will be off to their dad’s after Xmas and in my head I’m mentally preparing again for their absence. I’ll miss them. But I still remember from last time, the suprise at being so free; how clean the house stayed; how luxurious it felt to not have to plan for anyone else
Have a wonderful time away. Massages sound like a very good way to spend gift money!
Ems last blog post..reconstructed guinea pig cage
It’s a peculiar sensation isn’t it Em? My two were little horros most of last week so I’m enjoying the break more than I think I ever have before. I’m missing them in theory but mostly just soaking up every minute of the peace to fortify me for when I get home.
That’s fabulous Dani! It sounds like some much deserved pampering and indulgence, and time alone with the BW will be lovely too no doubt. Enjoy!
